The SF Giants took the first game of the series against the New York Mets by a score of 5-2. They now look to staff ace Logan Webb to try and capture a series win on Tuesday night.
Webb is off to yet another strong start to the season. He has posted a 2.93 ERA, 2.88 FIP, 1.17 WHIP, 6.5 K/9, and a 3.67 SO/W ratio through four starts. This includes a 56.4 percent ground ball rate. Interestingly, Webb has a nearly identical ground ball rate to fellow rotation arms Keaton Winn (58.9 percent) and Jordan Hicks (56.6 percent).
Who is hot?
Matt Chapman’s defense continues to be as advertised at the hot corner. His defense has been worth +4 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) and 0 Outs Above Average (OAA) in 2024. Admittedly, defensive metrics in small samples should be taken with a grain of salt, but the four-time Gold Glove winner has passed the eye test.
Chapman has already experienced a bit of a slump in 2024, but he appeared to be breaking out of it. The right-handed bat has recorded eight hits, including six extra-base hits, in 24 at-bats over his last six games.
Who are the SF Giants facing?
The Giants will face off against Luis Severino of the Mets. Severino has posted a 2.14 ERA in four starts this season.
