Oilers pay homage to Joey Moss in special way

The Edmonton Oilers are paying homage to the late Joey Moss in a special way, as the current Oilers 50/50 will be in support the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society (EDSS), and Special Olympics Alberta and Winnifred Stewart Association.

Born with Down syndrome, Moss started working for the Oilers as a locker room attendant in the mid-1980s after meeting then-center Wayne Gretzky, and his influence remains through the performance of the Canada national anthem before games, the playing of the Edmonton victory song following wins, and the outdoor plaza.

Recently, Corey Smith, Board Chair of the Oilers EOCF spoke to what Joey Moss means to the city of Edmonton.

“We are proud to partner with Edmonton Down Syndrome Society, Special Olympics Alberta and Winnifred Stewart Association to honour Joey and ensure his legacy continues to make a difference, by supporting and empowering individuals with Down syndrome,”

What an amazing initiative by the Edmonton Oilers Community foundation.

Hopefully, the Oilers will be able to honour Joey Moss after their game with Ducks with a “La Bamba” for all fans to hear at Rogers Place.
