Patrick Mahomes Slams Body-Shamers: ‘I Don’t Have Abs, and I’m Proud of It!’
Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and three-time Super Bowl champion, is once again setting the record straight when it comes to body-shaming and unrealistic expectations. The 28-year-old athlete, who is no stranger to being under a microscope, recently responded to comments about his body, shutting down the critics with humor and confidence.
In an interview with sports analyst Pat McAfee, Mahomes addressed the ongoing chatter about his physique, specifically the recurring “dad bod” commentary that’s followed him for years. Despite his incredible success on the field, some fans and critics still feel the need to comment on his appearance—particularly the fact that he doesn’t have traditional six-pack abs.
“It kind of surprised me,” Mahomes said with a chuckle. “I kind of thought we had the whole dad bod thing out of the way last season in the playoffs. But I guess people still haven’t realized that I don’t have abs.”
The quarterback, known for his incredible talent and leadership, wasn’t letting the negative comments get to him. Instead, he embraced it with humor, poking fun at the situation and making it clear that he’s comfortable in his own skin.
Mahomes also took a playful jab at the viral moment when his choice of practice attire led to more body-shaming comments. Referring to his outfit, he joked, “Hopefully, one of these days, we can figure out how to get a looser T-shirt. The backpack’s just holding my shirt in.”
The father of two made sure to emphasize that the “dad bod” isn’t something that just happens. He proudly stated, “The dad bod doesn’t happen by itself. You know me, man, I’m not a wine guy, I’m a Coors Light guy, that’s who I am. You’ve got to get some Coors Light in there.”
This isn’t the first time Mahomes has had to address body-shaming. Back in January, he also took to Twitter to respond to a clip from Inside the NFL, which had generated online chatter about his physique. He clarified that as a quarterback, a little extra padding is necessary: “I have a great body for a quarterback. You’ve got to have some padding in there to take the hits that we take.”
Mahomes’ response is a powerful reminder that athletes, like everyone else, should be celebrated for their abilities and achievements rather than criticized for their appearance. As he continues to dominate on the field and lead the Chiefs to victory, it’s clear that Mahomes is more than capable of handling whatever comes his way—whether it’s body-shaming or tackling the toughest teams in the NFL.
So, to all the body-shamers out there: Patrick Mahomes is here to stay, and he’s proud of who he is—abs or not.
