Rangers make another move involving Matt Rempe following Kaapo Kakko trade

New York is back in action on Friday and the lineup will look quite different.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, the New York Rangers traded forward Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken. Coming to the Big Apple in return are defenseman Will Borgen, a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, and a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NHL.

The trade takes place a few days after Kakko was made a healthy scratch on Sunday for the game against the St. Louis Blues, though talks between the Rangers and the Kraken about Kakko reportedly started over the weekend.

Right after the trade, the Rangers announced that they had recalled enforcer Matt Rempe from the Hartford Wolf Pack and Victor Mancini has been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Rempe was sent down to the minors at the end of October after failing to record a point with no penalty minutes in seven games.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and Rempe gets another shot.

Rempe recorded one goal and one assist alongside 71 penalty minutes over 17 regular season games last year with the Rangers, and added one goal and 10 penalty minutes in 11 playoff contests.

He was selected by the Rangers in the sixth round of the 2020 NHL Draft and could be what New York needs to wake up the rest of the roster.
