Stuart Skinner gives up a brutal goal in the third period, one of the worst of the season.

This is definitely one that Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner will want back, but luckily for Skinner he has received plenty of support from his teammates today so he will be able to quickly put it in the back of his mind.

On Saturday afternoon, Skinner and his Oilers clashed with the Vegas Golden Knights in a highly anticipated Pacific Division matchup and it was a game that the Oilers would eventually begin to dominate after a very strong second period that saw them score 4 goals, establishing a 3 goal lead in the process.

Skinner however did his best to give the Golden Knights a chance to get back into this one early in the third period, with the Oilers on the power play no less. After a long clearing attempt from the Golden Knights, Stuart would play the puck behind the Oilers net but would emerge with disastrous results.

Skinner would attempt to play the puck but a great effort from Golden Knights forward Brett Howden would put pressure on Skinner and cause him to fumble the puck, making a terrible mistake in the process. The end result was a puck on Howden’s stick and an empty cage in sight, which Howden capitalized on very quickly. It will in all likelihood go down for Howden as the easiest shorthanded goal of his entire career in the National Hockey League.

Here is a look at the replay.

As I mentioned Skinner did have the benefit of a huge lead courtesy of his teammates in this one, so it looks like he will be able to quickly move on from this one with a win over the Golden Knights appearing to be a forgone conclusion on Saturday.
