VIDEO: Sophie Cunningham Drops A Surprising Truth Bomb On Who’s To Blame For Ugly Caitlin Clark Incident
Sophie Cunningham has called out who she thinks is to blame for the ugly incident that saw her ejected from a game against the Connecticut Sun last week.
The Indiana Fever guard was involved in a wild skirmish with Jacy Sheldon, committing a hard foul on the Sun player on a fast break before they squared up and got kicked out of the game. It’s believed that her actions came about as retaliation for an earlier foul, given that Sheldon had poked Clark in the eye right before she got knocked to the floor by teammate Marina Mabrey.
Cunningham addressed the altercations this weekend and pointed fingers at the referees, suggesting it’s her job to protect her teammates.
“I think the refs had a lot to do with that. It was a build-up for a couple of years now of them just not, not protecting the star player in the WNBA. And so at the end of the day, I’m going to protect my teammates, that’s what I do,” she remarked.
Sophie Cunningham Isn’t About To Step Back From Her Enforcer Role
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham (8) and Connecticut Sun guard Jacy Sheldon (4) get into a fight in the second half at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Sophie Cunningham reckons other teams have been getting away with cheap shots on Caitlin Clark, and the referees have allowed it to get to a point where players aren’t even bothered about fouling her.
It sounds like she will continue to have her teammates’ backs moving forward, despite the recent ejection and ensuing fine.
