Cooper DeJean had a two-word message when given Patrick Mahomes’ card to sign.
As DeJean continues to prepare for the upcoming NFL season, the cornerback took time over the weekend to attend Fanatics Fest in New York and spend the day with fans. During his time with fans, the Eagles star was given Mahomes’ collectible card to sign.
A fan on social media then posted the message DeJean wrote on the card: “Go Birds!”
For DeJean, it is clear the Eagles believe he is one of the team’s stars for the foreseeable future, as after he became a starter in Week 6, Philadelphia only gave up 16.7 points per game, down from 24.0. The Eagles also almost gave up 100 fewer yards from that point, allowing teams only 270.5 yards per game compared to 365.8.
After the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX win, the 22-year-old explained what made him so successful against Mahomes and Kelce. In particular, DeJean gave credit to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and the scheme that was put in place against two of the best at their respective positions.

“Yeah, I think it’s the way he calls the game,” DeJean said at the time, per ESPN. “The way he calls the game, he understands what we’re good at as a defense. We play a lot of zone, and we work well together as a defense. That’s a credit to him.
“Our defense works well together, just preparing throughout the week, talking through things and making sure we’re ready for anything that’s thrown at us in the game. With those boys up front, we might have blitzed one time the whole game.

“Those guys were getting pressure like crazy. It makes it easier on the guys in the back end when you’ve got guys like that up front who can get pressure on the quarterback.”

After Super Bowl LIX, Mahomes gave DeJean and the Eagles credit for how fiercely they played. Speaking to reporters after the loss, the star quarterback said: “I mean, credit to the Eagles, man. They played better than us from start to finish.

“We didn’t start how we wanted to. Obviously, the turnovers hurt and I take all the blame for that.”
He added: “I mean those early turnovers swing the momentum of the game and they capitalized on them. They scored on the one and then they got a touchdown immediately after, so 14 points that I kind of game them and it’s hard to come back from that in the Super Bowl.
“Just didn’t play to my standard and I have to be better next time.”
