“I’ve talked to Tom quite a bit this season” — Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes reveals crucial advice given to him by Tom Brady, and also discloses one significant detail about his future plans with the Chiefs that has left fans stunned.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has developed a tight relationship with future Hall of Famer Tom Brady over the years.

Mahomes is largely considered the main threat to Brady’s status as the greatest QB in NFL history. However, that hasn’t stopped Brady from giving Mahomes advice on how to be great. Mahomes revealed some of Brady’s words of encouragement while joining Kay Adams on “Up & Adams” on Monday.

“He (Brady) always talks about being yourself,” Mahomes said. “He thinks that, which I truly believe too, guys can spot when you’re not authentic and you’re not putting in the work. And that’s something that he did every single day. That’s why guys respected him so much. And that’s all I’m going to do with the rest of my career, and I feel like I’ve done [that] so far. I’m always myself. No matter if you like me or if you don’t like me, you know that I’m giving everything I can to win football games.”

Brady has been on record saying that he believes Mahomes is the only QB who could accomplish what he has. As he enters his ninth year in the league, Mahomes shared his thoughts on his legacy and Brady’s comments.

“I think that’s always on the back of your mind (legacy), even from the beginning of my career, but at the end of the day, it’s about taking it a day-by-day,” Mahomes said. “And that’s something that I’ve been conscious of, knowing how blessed I am to be in Kansas City, having all these great players around me. And having Tom say that, it just motivates me even more. I’ve actually talked to Tom a good amount this offseason, and it’s cool that he wants to give me advice. He doesn’t have to be like that. He’s such a good dude, and I have so much respect for him, and I’ll take any advice he gives me.”

It will be fascinating to see how the second half of Mahomes career unfolds. He has outpaced Brady in virtually every major category throughout his first eight seasons, but Brady played better and garnered more accolades in the latter part of his career. Whoever is remembered as the greatest of all time will always be debatable, but the conversation starting with Mahomes and Brady may not be.
