Over a month after Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement, “The Life of a Showgirl” singer detailed the moments leading up to his proposal, including his unusual nerves.

Taylor Swift was enchanted by Travis Kelce’s proposal.

Over a month after “The Life of a Showgirl” singer and the Kansas City Chiefs player confirmed their engagement Aug. 26, she gave insight into the moments before her now-fiancé popped the big question after recording her featured episode of New Heights.

“I think for Travis the podcast was just a distraction sort of ruse to keep me not looking out the windows of the house,” Taylor explained to Jimmy Fallon during her Oct. 6 appearance on The Tonight Show. “There were black out drapes on every single window of the whole house. I was like, ‘He is so serious about this and I really appreciate that.’”

And while Taylor assumed that Travis’ increased levels of privacy were because of her appearance and subsequent album announcement on the stream, the NFL stars vibes were just as strange following the recording.

“Afterward, I realized, he’s walking around nervous about the podcast,” she continued. “He’s like, ‘My heart is racing, I know how much this means to you. I really want this to be what you hoped it would be.’”

She added, “Because we’d been talking about doing a podcast and announcing the album. But he was just like, ‘My heart is racing.’ And I’ve never seen this dude nervous.”

Still, the 35-year-old admitted she didn’t expect what was to come.

“He was like, ‘Do you want to just go walk around the backyard and have a glass of wine?’” Taylor recalled. “I was like, ‘I’m always gonna want to do that.’ And then I realized exactly why all of the windows were curtained and why he was nervous.”

As she put it, “It was the best possible case scenario.”

Meanwhile, Travis is just as happy to be in his engagement era.

“It’s been really fun telling everybody who I’m going to be spending the rest of my life with,” the 36-year-old gushed on the Sept. 3 episode of New Heights. “It’s been awesome.”

He effused, “I still get giddy, it’s exciting times.”

July 2023: So, Make the Friendship Bracelets

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s love story began in July 2023, when the singer’s Eras Tour made a stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

As a huge Swiftie, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end caught the show with hopes of giving Taylor a friendship bracelet with his number on it. However, he failed to complete the pass due to her pre-show rituals.

“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Travis shared on the July 26 episode of his New Heights podcast. “So, I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.”

Summer 2023: This Is Him Trying

After publicly recounting his fumble—a move Taylor would later describe as “metal as hell”—Travis decided to shoot his shot and invite the Grammy winner to watch the Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium.

“I threw it out there, I threw the ball in her court,” he shared on The Pat McAfee Show. “I told her, you know, ‘I’ve seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead, you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one’s a little more lit.’ So, we’ll see what happens in the near future.”

August 2023: Enchanted to Meet You

Travis was rocking a mustache—which he debuted in August during training camp—when he was first introduced to Taylor.

As he later noted of the era, “That ‘stache and the 87 jersey was pretty iconic there for a little bit, and I had it when I met Taylor for the first time.”
