Barry Manilow has shared a candid and reassuring update about his health, revealing that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer and will be temporarily stepping back from the stage to focus on treatment and recovery. The legendary singer announced the news in an Instagram post on Monday, December 22, explaining that the diagnosis came after weeks of persistent illness.

According to Manilow, he initially battled six weeks of bronchitis, followed by a relapse that lasted another five weeks. Although he eventually recovered and returned to performing at the Westgate Las Vegas, his doctor recommended an MRI as a precautionary measure. That scan ultimately revealed a cancerous spot on his left lung that requires surgical removal. “It’s pure luck and a great doctor that it was found so early,” Manilow wrote, emphasizing that early detection was the silver lining in the situation.

The 82-year-old entertainer shared that doctors do not believe the cancer has spread and that he is currently undergoing additional tests to confirm the diagnosis. He noted that the treatment plan is straightforward and optimistic, involving surgery rather than chemotherapy or radiation. With his trademark humor, Manilow reassured fans by writing that recovery would consist of “chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns,” followed by about a month of rest.
