Coldplay Kiss Cam Woman Breaks Silence on Viral Scandal

The woman at the center of a viral Kiss Cam moment at a Coldplay concert has spoken out publicly for the first time, describing how the incident upended her personal life and career.

Kristen Kitt and Andy Byron were caught embracing on the stadium Kiss Cam during a Coldplay concert in July, a moment that quickly spread across social media and amassed hundreds of millions of views within days. At the time, both were senior executives at the tech company Astronomer—Kitt served as head of human resources, while Byron was the company’s CEO. In the weeks that followed, both resigned from their positions.

Five months later, Kitt sat down with The New York Times for her first interview since the incident. In a December 18 article, she said she was separated from her husband at the time and emphasized that she and Byron were not in a relationship and had never kissed before that night at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts.

“I made a bad decision,” Kitt told the paper. “I drank a couple of High Noons and danced and acted inappropriately with my boss. I took accountability, and I gave up my career for that. That’s the price I chose to pay.”

Kitt said the situation escalated after she confided in Byron about her separation, recalling that he told her he was going through a similar situation. She said strong emotions developed quickly and that she knew she could not continue reporting to him if things progressed further. Then came the Coldplay concert.

Looking back, Kitt said part of her knew the outing was a mistake, but she did not anticipate the fallout. When the Kiss Cam focused on them, she said she felt “so embarrassed and so horrified,” adding, “I’m the head of HR and he’s the CEO. It’s so cliché and so bad.”

The video’s rapid spread online had severe consequences. Kitt said she received threats, some of which her children overheard, leaving them frightened. She also said she was shunned by former friends and colleagues and struggled with the public backlash.

Kitt told the Times that telling her children about the incident was one of the hardest moments. Her teenage daughter cried upon learning what had happened. “They knew who Andy was,” she said. “I told them we got swept up in a moment, and now it’s on social media.”

She also criticized a promotional video Astronomer released after the scandal featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin’s ex-wife. In a separate interview with The Times of the UK, Kitt said she was disappointed by Paltrow’s involvement, calling it hypocritical given Paltrow’s public image of supporting women. Paltrow did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In the aftermath, Byron and his wife have been seen together publicly, while Kitt filed for divorce. She told The New York Times that her husband has been “nothing but a gentleman” throughout the ordeal. As for her relationship with Byron, Kitt said their contact since the incident has been minimal.
