In an emotional video posted to social media, Lauren revealed her deep personal connection to Bondi. Originally from Perth, Western Australia, she has lived in Sydney on and off for the past decade, including five years in Bondi itself. “This is my beach. This is my home,” she said. Lauren had only recently moved back to Sydney permanently when the tragedy occurred—just days after returning to Bondi.

According to Lauren, the shooting unfolded on a warm Sunday afternoon, one of the busiest and most peaceful times at Bondi Beach. She had stepped out to grab food near her apartment when she heard loud cracking sounds, which she initially believed were fireworks or a car backfiring. It wasn’t until she saw people running in panic and heard police shouting evacuation orders that she realized something was terribly wrong.

Married At First Sight star Lauren Dunn has detailed how she “ran for her life” as armed terrorists shot civilians at a Hanukkah festival on Bondi Beach.

“It didn’t truly register until I was standing at my window watching people flee and then learned there were fatalities,” Lauren shared. She described feeling overwhelmed with emotion as she witnessed scenes of terror below—people hiding under tables, shielding one another with their own bodies, while gunshots continued.

Lauren praised the bravery and compassion shown by the Bondi community during the crisis. She recounted how surf lifesavers, emergency responders, and local volunteers rushed to provide aid and shelter, while residents opened their homes to protect complete strangers. “It was terrifying, but it was also deeply human,” she said.

The following day, Lauren returned to the beach to lay flowers in remembrance. While sitting alone, she was approached by a disaster recovery chaplain from New South Wales, whose role was to check in on people affected by the tragedy. Their heartfelt conversation was unintentionally recorded and later shared on TikTok, where it resonated with viewers around the world. Lauren said the moment highlighted the kindness, empathy, and togetherness that emerged in the aftermath of the violence.

In her message, Lauren urged people not to allow fear or hatred to divide communities. She emphasized that everyone—regardless of gender, race, religion, or identity—deserves to feel safe in their own home and public spaces. She also warned against online misinformation and rhetoric that unfairly targets entire communities, stressing that acts of violence do not represent any religion or cultural group.

“Bondi, Sydney, and Australia have shown the world that we are stronger than fear,” Lauren concluded. “In the face of tragedy, we come together. We choose compassion over hatred, and unity over division.”
