Then time passed.

The reality showed that it didn’t happen. Putin had no interest in peace, and Trump continued to be “led astray” step by step. He was outsmarted in Alaska, and now it’s happening again. Trump’s statements — especially the claim that Putin wanted Ukraine to “succeed” — were shocking. This is the same Putin who has been waging war against Ukraine for almost 12 years.

Trump even said that Putin had “good intentions” towards Ukraine, even willing to help Ukraine develop. This statement not only made the Ukrainian president laugh in front of the world, but also provoked a fierce reaction from Fox News—a media outlet that usually supports Trump.

Fox News stated unequivocally: Vladimir Putin has no interest in peace and has proven it many times.

Within 48 hours, Trump repeated all the familiar refrains when speaking about Putin and Ukraine: contradictions, inconsistencies, and constant calls for concessions. When asked about the new Russian attacks on Ukraine, Trump claimed Putin was “very serious” about ending the war and even said Ukraine had also launched strong attacks, which he deemed “not negative.”

Trump went on to say that both sides want to end the war, both the Ukrainian and Russian people, and that both leaders desire peace.

Zelenskyy breaks silence on social media after fiery Oval Office exchange with Trump: 'Thank you America'

The chaos reached its peak when Trump said he “knew nothing” about the allegations that Ukraine attempted to attack Putin’s residence. But just minutes later, he said that Putin himself had told him about the incident in a phone call a few hours earlier.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused Ukraine of using 91 long-range drones to attack Putin’s residence, all of which were shot down without causing any damage or casualties. Ukraine completely denied this, calling it a lie intended to create a pretext for retaliation and undermine the peace process.

President Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia was preparing new attacks on Kyiv and asserted that Ukraine had found no evidence that Putin truly wanted peace. He also declared that Ukraine would not cede territory or sovereignty without a nationwide referendum.

Zelenskyy says Ukraine 'ready' for peace negotiations, calls Trump meeting 'regrettable'

While Trump said Russia could help rebuild Ukraine and “wanted to see Ukraine succeed,” Fox News and many analysts believe that Trump is increasingly finding it difficult to deny accusations that he is being manipulated by Putin. Even Fox News gave Trump a very low rating for his performance.

Russian media, however, expressed delight. Several Russian newspapers wrote that the U.S. no longer viewed Russia as a threat, and suggested that Trump’s thinking was closer to Putin’s values than to those of European leaders. They believed Trump would pressure Kyiv to end the war sooner.

The contrast between Trump’s message and Ukraine’s reality reveals a major rift in U.S. foreign policy — and a rare instance of Fox News publicly distancing itself from Donald Trump.
