Taylor Swift is closing out the year with gratitude, joy, and a renewed sense of stability both personally and professionally. During her December 10th appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the global superstar opened up about what she called an “exceptional year,” one defined by two milestones she once thought impossible: reclaiming ownership of her music and getting engaged to NFL star Travis Kelce.
“Getting engaged to the love of my life, getting all my music back — those were two things that just never could have happened,” Swift said. “It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, it’s just a matter of time.’ Both those things could have never arrived in my life. I’m so grateful.”
Colbert praised the way Swift announced her engagement online, joking that it felt like “your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” Swift laughed, acknowledging how fun the moment was for her fans.
Alongside celebrating her engagement, Swift reflected on the long fight to reclaim her masters — a victory she credited entirely to her fans and the success of the Eras Tour. “That’s how I spent that Aeros tour money,” she joked.
Life at Home: Cozy, Private, and Nothing Like the Stage
When asked about the difference between “Taylor Swift at home” and “Taylor Swift on stage,” the singer amused Colbert with her answer.
At home, Swift said she prefers comfort and simplicity — even humorously describing her love for “old Victorian nightgowns” that make her look like “a ghost someone might see in a window.”
She keeps her home intentionally free of plaques, awards, and studio equipment.
“I don’t want there to be any evidence that a music person lives here,” she said. “Except for my piano and a guitar — but even the guitar isn’t displayed prominently. Home should feel cozy.”
Swift emphasized the importance of having a tight, trustworthy circle of family and friends: “I can tell them anything and it never ends up in the press. It’s really nice.”

gets into a hot bath — calling it “mermaid time.”
Then comes her favorite indulgence: ordering “the most amount of room service possible.” French fries often make the list, but she says it depends on her cravings each night.
To relax her mind, she signs thousands of CDs while watching Dateline or listening to audiobooks. The repetitive motion of signing, she said, helps “turn off the ideas for a second.”
The Eras Tour: A Cultural Phenomenon
Swift admitted she initially underestimated just how monumental the Eras Tour would become.
In the beginning, she assumed the overwhelming demand came simply from having released five albums without touring. But when she started hearing stories of fans experiencing “joy blackouts” and even “post-concert amnesia,” she realized something unique was happening.
“My whole life I’ve tried to study how to not just entertain people, but transport them out of their problems,” she said. “When medical professionals were diagnosing fans with joy blackouts, I thought — oh man, this one’s different.”

“It’s too soon!” she said. “I need time to appreciate my work.”
