White House Scrambles as Chaotic Briefing Raises Questions Over Trump’s Claims and Policies
In a press briefing widely described as one of the administration’s most chaotic to date, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt struggled to defend President Donald Trump’s recent statements on the economy, trade, and national security—while also facing tough questions about the president’s physical condition.
The event quickly spiraled as reporters repeatedly challenged the accuracy of Leavitt’s remarks, exposing contradictions and raising concerns over the administration’s messaging strategy.
Bandaged Hand Sparks Health Questions
One of the first points of scrutiny came from the visible bandage on President Trump’s right hand. When asked about the injury, Leavitt claimed it resulted from the president “shaking too many hands” and experiencing light bruising.
Critics immediately questioned the explanation, calling it implausible and pointing to the administration’s history of offering vague or inconsistent information about Trump’s health.

Inflation Figures Disputed in Real Time
Leavitt then asserted that inflation had “come down to 2.5%,” prompting immediate pushback from reporters who cited the official Consumer Price Index rate of 3.0% recorded in September.
Despite the contradiction, Leavitt insisted she was “reading from the correct numbers,” sparking further criticism that the administration is presenting selective or misleading economic data.
CNN’s Caitlin Collins pressed Leavitt on Trump’s recent claim that American families “can only afford two or three toys” for their children this holiday season. When asked how this aligned with the administration’s narrative of economic strength, Leavitt deflected, saying the president was encouraging families to “buy American for better quality,” a response that failed to address rising consumer prices.
Controversy Over Nvidia Chips and China
The briefing became more tense when NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell asked whether the administration would allow advanced Nvidia H200 chips to be exported to China—a move that experts warn could undermine U.S. national security and technological leadership.

Leavitt stated the chips would only be available to “approved customers” after undergoing thorough vetting. However, her vague assurances left reporters questioning whether the administration was prioritizing geopolitical strategy or commercial gain.
Food Prices and Reality for Consumers
Collins again challenged Leavitt by pointing out that food prices have risen for multiple consecutive months. Leavitt denied that costs are increasing, contradicting official USDA and BLS data as well as the experiences of millions of American consumers.

Her dismissive response further fueled criticism that the administration is out of touch with economic realities.
Tensions Escalate as CNN Mentioned by Name
The briefing concluded on an even more contentious note when Leavitt appeared to take aim at CNN directly, hinting that President Trump might support forcing a change in the network’s ownership.
The remark triggered immediate backlash from journalists and free-press advocates, who warned that such comments undermine media independence and could signal future attempts to influence press freedoms.
A Press Room in Crisis Mode
The disastrous appearance left the White House facing mounting criticism over:
inconsistent economic claims,
ambiguous national security policies,
heightened hostility toward the press, and
increased concerns about transparency regarding the president’s health.
Observers say the administration’s messaging is “fracturing under pressure,” and the briefing has already been described as one of the most damaging of Trump’s second term.
