Sheryl Swoopes SNAPS After DeWanna Bonner STANDS UP For Caitlin Clark & Indiana Fever!
Sheryl Swoopes might want to sit this one out, because DeWanna Bonner of the WNBA Indiana Fever just delivered a masterclass in shutting down baseless narratives—and it hit hard. After weeks of headlines claiming no one wants to play with Caitlin Clark, and after Swoopes stirred the pot with comments about the Indiana Fever’s so-called “toxic” fanbase, Bonner didn’t just brush it off. She came back swinging—with a contract and a statement that silenced the noise across the WNBA.
Caitlin Clark Fans React to Sad Sheryl Swoopes Update
The 2024 WNBA season shattered viewership records, driven largely by rookie sensation Caitlin Clark.
Clark averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and a WNBA-best 8.4 assists per game, becoming the first rookie since Candace Parker in 2008 to make the All-WNBA First Team.
Yet as the dust settled on another banner year for women’s basketball, some familiar voices on the sidelines quietly fell out of favor.
On Monday, the Phoenix Mercury revealed a revamped 2025 local broadcast lineup, without any mention of Cindy Brunson.
Brunson, who formed the Mercury’s first all-female booth in 2023, responded on social media with a Bob Marley quote, “True friends are like stars; you can only recognize them when it’s dark around you,” per @dreadsbanes.
Earlier in the 2024 season, Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes was removed from WNBA broadcasts following her comments toward Clark.
Swoopes had been highly critical of the young star, and many viewed it as a direct response to the criticism Swoopes drew from Clark’s growing legion of supporters.
Regarding the latest piece of news, @HardHitter80 commented saying, “Maybe broadcasters realised that CCFC (Caitlin Clark Fan Club) has the biggest fanbase. Just hope the replacements are more unbiased.”
@mikealen112735 said, “Sounds like the league getting more professional and getting rid of 🤡’s”
@BQuintoria hit back with, “Thank god the league is actually doing something about the unprofessional people they hire. They caused so much drama last season and most of it fell on Caitlins shoulder to deal with and fix, it wasn’t acceptable at all.”
@Amyn222222 just kept it short with, “They all deserve lmaooo”
WayneMood_96 simply responded with, “👀” and @harambeburrito chimed in with, “😂😂😂😂😂😂”.

Neither move amounts to a league‑wide dismissal.
Both Swoopes and Brunson are still signed to the Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball broadcast team for the 2025 season on ESPN+, FanDuel Sports Network and the WNBA App.
Their absence is confined to specific team‑affiliated broadcasts.
As the 2025 season approaches, individual franchises are recalibrating their on‑air talent to align with the new Clark‑driven fanbase.
