South Carolina Garners Praise as Team GPA Under Dawn Staley Sets New Record
The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team continues to prove they’re elite — not just in athletic performance, but in the classroom as well.
Led by legendary head coach Dawn Staley, the Gamecocks had another incredible season, advancing all the way to the national championship game. Though they fell short to the UConn Huskies in the title matchup, their journey through the NCAA Tournament showcased the grit and discipline that defines the program. And that success isn’t limited to the court.

In a recent post from the team’s official social media account, South Carolina celebrated a major academic milestone — a program-record 3.672 cumulative GPA for the spring semester. It’s the highest team GPA ever achieved by the Gamecocks and highlights the student-athletes’ commitment to excellence in every aspect of their college careers.
Fans were quick to shower the team with praise for the academic feat.
“That is an impressive stat!! Holding down what basically amounts to a FT job + getting these kinds of grades is 🔥,” one supporter posted.
Another commented, “Congratulations ladies, well done.”
“Brains, Beauties and Basketball,” wrote one fan, capturing the pride shared by many in the Gamecock community.
“Congrats ladies. This is the type of MOTION to have. A great education goes a long way,” added another.
Coach Dawn Staley, who took over the program in 2008, has been instrumental in creating a culture of both academic and athletic excellence. Under her leadership, the Gamecocks have won three national championships, reached seven Final Fours, and secured nine SEC regular-season and tournament titles apiece.
Now, with a historic GPA under their belts, the Gamecocks head into the next season with even more reason to be proud — showing that championship culture runs deep in every area of the program.
