Caitlin Clark Used Three Words To Describe WNBA Rookie Season
Clark and the Indiana Fever are now out of the WNBA playoffs following a Game 2 loss to the Connecticut Sun in the first round. After the game, Clark spoke with the media, reflecting on her WNBA rookie season.
The 22-year-old finished her last game of the year with 25 points, six rebounds and nine assists per game. She led the Fever in both points and assists in Game 2.
Clark cemented herself as one of the best players in the WNBA in her rookie season. The WNBA All-Star mentioned that she’ll now have a chance to reflect on not only what she’s accomplished in the WNBA but also her college career with the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Despite the loss, when Clark was asked about her rookie year, she mentioned “It was special.”
“Basketball has really consumed my life for years so, I feel like it will be good for me to kind of reflect back on everything that’s happened.” Clark said. “I feel like I didn’t even have time to reflect on my college career… I feel like taking some time to myself and really enjoying that and reflecting back… It was special.”
The rookie finished the regular season averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game. She led the WNBA in average assists and led the rookie class in average points.
Clark was able to lead the Fever back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. They finished the year with a 20-20 record, listed as the No. 6 team in the WNBA standings. It was their first 20-win season since 2015.
While it was a historic year for both Clark and the Fever, she emphasized that she feels like taking time away from the court to really get an idea of what she’s been able to accomplish.
The first-year star was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in April. But before she was wreaking havoc in the WNBA, Clark became the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer with the Hawkeyes.
She scored 3,951 points in her four-year career while averaging 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists.
