Kansas City Chiefs predicted to ‘cut ties’ with $105 million Pro Bowler that will see end of Patrick Mahomes protector

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS star Trey Smith could be about to leave the side.

The Chiefs are coming off a humiliating 40-22 Super Bowl defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.

And now the Chiefs could look to balance their payroll.

The Chiefs have stars hitting the free-agent market this spring and not a ton of financial means to keep them in Kansas.

They can create flexibility by restructuring contracts but as of Monday, they have just $7.9 million in projected 2025 cap space.

It comes with guard Smith projected for for a five-year, $105 million deal last month.

That is a $2.5 million improvement on the biggest contract Smith has ever received.

But ESPN analysts do not believe the Chiefs will be able to keep Smith around.

“I just think they have so many holes. It’s hard for me to guess, but I’m gonna guess Trey Smith walks,” Kevin Clark said.

“He’s gonna be so expensive.”

“It’s just the price,” Host Mina Kimes said. “And I don’t think the tag is an option.

“There’s quite a few teams I could think of that need interior offensive line help that might be willing to break the bank.”

Teams like the New England Patriots and Chicago Bears possess far more cap space than the Chiefs and could look to sign a guard.

So the Chiefs face a fight on their hands to keep hold of Smith.
