Cameras Catch Angel Reese Taunting Ex-Teammate in Sky-Sun.
On Friday night, Marina Mabrey and the Connecticut Sun pulled off a close 82-80 win against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. The game was secured after Sun star Alyssa Thomas made two free throws in the final seconds to give them the lead and the win.
Before the Olympic break, Mabrey requested a trade from the Sky and was dealt to Connecticut in a multi-player deal. Things got pretty intense early on when Chennedy Carter hit her former teammate in the face, getting called for a flagrant foul.
Reese got into the action with Mabrey as well.
Late into the third quarter, Mabrey was called for an offensive foul after being double-teamed by Reese and Lindsay Allen. When the ref blew the whistle, Reese turned around, stared down Mabrey and clapped at her.
Despite the rough play, Mabrey got the last laugh, defeating her old team in their first meeting. The former Notre Dame standout scored 24 points, the most of any player.
Reese ended the game with 13 points on just 25% shooting and 20 rebounds, marking her second-straight game with 20 boards. No other player in WNBA history has ever accomplished this feat.
The Sky will get one more shot at Mabrey and the Sun when they meet on September 19. This will be the last game of the 2024 WNBA regular season for both teams.
