Chennedy Carter’s latest flagrant foul came on an opponent who was her teammate with the Chicago Sky until last month.

The Sun and Sky had their first meeting Friday night since Marina Mabrey was traded to Connecticut last month after asking out of Chicago.

Mabrey was going up for a shot late in the first quarter and was met with a clothesline from Carter at Mohegan Sun.

Officials gave Carter her fourth flagrant foul of the season.

With 12 games remaining in the season, one more flagrant would be an automatic suspension for Carter, who infamously checked Caitlin Clark in a clear non-basketball play amid the heated Fever-Sky rivalry in June.

During media availability after the game, Mabrey was asked about the foul and gave an evasive answer.

“There’s levels to this s–t so I’m not gonna fight with that,” she told reporters, with no further comment.

Aside from the hard fouls, Carter, 25, has blossomed into an electric offensive player — in one notable performance, she had 34 points in a road win over the defending-champion Aces.

After Mabrey asked out of Chicago, there were questions about what must have gone down behind the scenes for her to want to leave a team seemingly on the rise, with Angel Reese, Kamila Cardoso, Carter starting to jell together.

Ultimately, Mabrey explained that her rationale, saying that she came to Chicago to play for a different coach — James Wade was let go last offseason, and former New York Liberty great Teresa Weatherspoon was brought in — and she didn’t like her role.

“I came to play for James Wade, the system he had built and the vision he saw for me,” Mabrey told the Chicago Sun-Times. “I don’t like to jump ship, so he left and then I thought, ‘OK, let’s see what happens.’”

Mabrey continued, “After a while, it’s hard you came for one thing, and it didn’t really end up panning out to be the role, position, everything that you were originally planning on being in with [Wade].”
