Woke Dawn Staley REGRETS Caitlin Clark SNUB From The Olympics.
Caitlin Clark would likely be on Team USA’s Olympic roster if selection were made today, says Dawn Staley
The selection for the women’s basketball team at the 2024 Summer Olympics has sparked controversy due to the omission of WNBA greenhorn Caitlin Clark. Despite her impressive performance, Team USA opted to use more experienced players, a decision that was widely criticized.
Dawn Staley, the head coach of the South Carolina Fighting Cocks and a member of the selection committee for Team USAspoke about the decision. Speaking to Mike Tirico on NBC’s Olympics broadcast, Staley noted that Clark’s current performance would have made her a strong candidate if the selection process were held today.
“As a committee member, you’re responsible for putting together the best team of players, the best talent. Caitlin is just a rookie in the WNBA. (She) didn’t play bad, but she didn’t play the way she’s playing now,” Staley explained. “If we had to do it all over again, the way she plays, she would definitely be considered because she’s head and shoulders above a lot of people and she shoots the ball extremely well. She’s an elite passer. She just has a great basketball IQ and she’s got some more experience in the pro game.”
The original selection of the squad took place almost two months ago when Clarkthe achievement was not as remarkable as it is today. Stable‘s comments highlight how much her game has evolved in a short time, underscoring the dynamic nature of player development.
Clark could be a valuable asset to this team
Critics argue that the selection committee should have anticipated Clark‘s potential and recruited her for the valuable experience she would gain on the international stage. Many see her as a future star for Team USA, making her exclusion seem shortsighted.
There is also speculation that some veteran players opposed her participation, believing she had not yet “earned” her spot. Staley’s mention of Clark now that he is “more experienced in the professional game” points to this internal debate within the team.
Team USA was faced with the challenge of balancing the selection of the best players with managing team dynamics and veteran presence. Despite Clark’s impressive statistics, including averages of 17 points, 8 assists and almost 6 rebounds per game, she was cut from the roster.
While the Olympic Games continue without any problems Caitlin Clark, The debate over her omission continues. Staley’s recent comments suggest a significant shift in perception over the past seven weeks, leading many to wonder how different the team would look if Clark’s current form had been taken into account from the start.
