Dylan Raiola went viral a few times when he mimicked the style of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ quarterback is pretty flattered.
Sure, Raiola was a hyped prospect, but he’s no Mahomes. At least not yet right? But, Nebraska’s off to a 2-0 start led by the true freshman QB.
Mahomes opened up on how did similar things to Raiola when he was growing up. Raiola went viral this most recent time when a video caught him jumping up and down pregame exactly like Mahomes.
Not to mentino how similar the two look based on their haircuts and facial hair.
“I mean, it’s cool, honestly,” Mahomes said, via KCTV. “I was that guy. I grew up watching players. I remember when I (was growing up), I loved Alex Rodriguez, played shortstop, and would try to make plays just like him, and do stuff like that, and it helped me become the athlete that I am … It’s just telling me I’m getting a little old. I think that’s the biggest thing, is that you have these guys that are coming up and doing some of the sidearm stuff and everything like that.
“But I know Dylan. I trained with him in the off-season. Great kid, a great football player, and I think he’s gonna make his own stamp on the game. And you think you’ve seen that early in his career.”
Mahomes also said he sees leadership qualities in Raiola through the early part of his college career.
“Whenever you come in as a freshman, you want to be on Twitter and be part of the team. I think he wants it to be about his team,” Mahomes said. “And I think that’s the right way to play the quarterback position. It’s not about you. It’s about going out there, having success as a team and they’ve done that so far this year. So even though I think he just kind of wants to go out and play football, and go out there and win football games, that’s the right way to play the position.”
Through two games, Raiola is 42-of-57 passing for 423 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
As a member of the Class of 2024, Raiola was a five-star recruit out of Buford (Ga.) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 2 overall prospect in the state, the No. 3 quarterback in the class and the No. 21 overall prospect in the class.
