Ole Miss Head Coach Yolett McCuin Shuts Down MiLaysia Fulwiley Transfer Rumors

Mississippi has been striking gold this offseason. Coach McCuin has already added a number of talented players, including:

Forward Cotie McMahon (Ohio State): 16.5 pts, 4.7 rebs, 2.1 asts (2024-25 stats)
Forward Latasha Lattimore (Virginia): 14.3 pts, 8.2 rebs, 1.0 asts (2024-25 stats)
Forward Jayla Murray (Wichita State): 12.4 pts, 5.3 rebs, 1.7 asts (2024-25 stats)
Guard Kaitlin Peterson (UCF): 21.4 pts, 2.2 rebs, 1.9 asts (2024-25 stats)
Guard Tianna Thompson (Georgia Tech): 4.0 pts, 1.0 rebs, 0.3 asts (2024-25 stats)

A self-proclaimed “portalista,” McPhee-McCuin is building something special in Oxford. With that, it looks like South Carolina’s Fulwiley won’t be a part of it.

Fulwiley was ranked as the No. 13 overall high school player in the class of 2023, one of the reasons why Gamecock’s head coach, Dawn Staley, was keen on signing the player.

During her first two seasons in Columbia, she helped the program reach back-to-back national championships in 2024 and 2025, ultimately winning in 2024.

The 5’10” guard averaged nearly identical stats in both seasons with the Gamecocks, tallying 11.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists in 2024, and 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists in 2025.

She averaged 18 minutes off the bench in both seasons, starting in only three of her 77 games played, while earning Southeastern Conference Sixth Player of the Year last season.

South Carolina has already added transfer guard Ta’Niya Latson, who led the country in scoring last season at 25.2 points per game at Florida State. With her addition, the Gamecocks more than likely wouldn’t have the option to give Fulwiley a position as a starter.

While Fulwiley navigates the transfer portal, she has a “no contact” designation for various teams, indicating she’s more than likely to have made up her mind on where she’ll be playing in her junior season.

Her comments on coach Staley’s leadership speaks volumes about the progression she had with the Gamecocks:

“I think my growth has been tremendous. I think I’ve grown in lots of places where I didn’t even know I could grow in. I’m just glad to be here in a program where the coaches are kind of very open and very direct with what they want and what they need from each and every one of us.

The guard continued:

“I think I kind of just took what they were saying, and I had to understand that it’s either I do it or I don’t. I felt like I wanted to do it. It’s been working for me lately. So the standard that Dawn has got here is great, and I think every player should want to play under this standard. It just brings out the best in each and every one of us, and I think it definitely brings out the best in me.”

Coach Staley commented on Fulwiley’s decision to enter the transfer portal, reflecting on the guard’s talents:

“She’s a dynamic guard. When she plays well, our team has the ultimate success.”

For Mississippi and coach McCuin, she took to Twitter to shut down rumors of adding the talented guard: “This is fake news, and I’m tired of y’all speaking on our name for no reason! Enough already.”

The coach wants Oxford off the table as a destination for Fulwiley, ultimately writing off any and all future reports moving forward.
