Caitlin Clark’s opponent, Kamilla Cardoso, gets no sympathy for video of broken nail before battling Iowa

She encountered an unexpected problem but didn’t get much sympathy.

South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso encountered an unexpected cosmetic issue as her Gamecocks prepared to take on Caitlin Clark and Iowa in the NCAA women’s basketball championship game.

When the video of her nail mishap hit social media, some fans called her focus into question and wondered if she’s making excuses before the big game.

“My nail broke!” the Brazilian screamed in shock, as her teammates huddled around to investigate.

“Save the money on the nails, they aren’t helping you,” suggested a snarky comment under the video on TikTok.

“Wow her nail broke,” another person chimed in sarcastically.

Did Kamilla Cardoso play Iowa with a broken nail?

The trolls seemed to think Cardoso was making a preemptive excuse by overreacting to the incident. Even with only nine out of 10 nails fully functioning, she has an advantage on most of her opponents because of her 6-foot-7 frame.

In fact, the video appeared to be from warm ups before South Carolina’s first Final Four game against NC State.

She proceeded to drop 22 points and 11 rebounds in just 23 minutes, broken nail and all.

It’s unclear if she got her nail fixed in time to face the Iowa Hawkeyes in the NCAA Championship, but if the reaction to the video is anything to go by, social media won’t cut her any slack if Iowa ends the Gamecocks’ undefeated season for the second year in a row.
